Hi Lisa--

My contention is that characters don't change-- they evolve. They become a better or worse version of who they already are. In a Power of Truth story the character usually starts investigating the truth about a simple thing (who killed Hollis Mulwray), over the course of the story the character finds out the truth about a larger thing (corruption in the water system of Los Angles) and in the end finds out the truth about himself (refusal to trust anyone results in history repeating itself "Forget it. It's Chinatown, Jake.") In your second novel to continue character continuity as a Power of Truth protagonist I would frame the story around themes of loyalty vs betrayal-- when does loyalty look like betrayal or when does betrayal look like loyalty? For example, can your character be loyal his principles without betraying the one he loves? How do his own feelings betray him? How do his enemies prey on his doubt and uncertainty about what he sees, hears, and feels? Hope this helps.

We came late to The Game of Thrones and spend half the time trying to figure out who all the characters are and how they connect. Your post is a boon, Laurie! And interesting too, about character types :)

Hi Laurie,
In my novel series, my detective functioned from an emotional base of Power of Truth in the first book. In this second book, after walking away from the job because of trauma and new-found love, he is now struggling to choose between that love and his own needs. His Power of Conscience has emerged to an even greater degree than was present in the first book.

Would you speak to ongoing characters who function in multiple POWERS OF as they grow and move forward or as they implode?

Thanks,
Big fan Of Power Of books.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that.

And he

just bought me lunch because I found it for him smile Therefore let me
rephrase that:

Thanks for lunch!

If you think that medical dramas are slow-paced, monotonous and far-stretched with regards to storylines, then watch House MD online and think again. It has re-ignited viewer interest in the imagination-driven hospital scenes. The physician’s optimism to drag a patient away from the tunnel of death, a patient’s strong will to free himself from the strong clutches of death and out of the queue medical procedures are once again gripping the audience.
