    Dear Laurie,

How are you doing? I’m not sure if you remember me: as part of the MediaXchange Showrunner Comedy Program 2005 I had the fortune of meeting you in Los Angeles and several years later you helped me with the characters of a new detective series for Endemol Netherlands (I believe it was in 2011). After leaving Endemol I worked as a script doctor for producers and broadcasters in Germany (MDR, WDR, NDR, SWR), France (ARTE), Britain (BBC and BBC/Alba) and Russia (I was told I’m the only foreigner writing in Russian for Russian television now). More than once, I have made use of your emotional toolbox character types. That is something I want to thank you for.

Two weeks ago I’ve held five masterclasses in screenwriting for professional screenwriters in Moscow – I consider it to be my responsibility to build bridges between East and West – and the response was so great (several filmschools have invited me back), that I decided to develop that idea further. One thing I would like to do, is to introduce Russian screenwriters to the American way of making television and screenwriting in particular. Therefore, I would like to interview prominent screenwriters and screenwriting teachers on camera in New York and LA about their views, skills and experience. Would it be possible to interview you in the first half of July 2016 in LA about the emotional toolbox? Setting up and shooting the interview will only take one hour and in September I would publish an edited version with Russian subtitles on my website (which is in the process of being translated to English, German and Russian). It would be a great honour for me.

Besides, would you know any other prominent screenwriting teachers or screenwriters in LA or New York, who could be interested in being introduced to a Russian audience and whom I could approach for an interview?

Thank you very much in advance!

    Best wishes from Holland
    Maarten van der Duin
